Joseph Carr, 86 a longtime resident of Spearfish, passed peacefully at the David M. Dorsett Healthcare Center on October 31, 2016, surrounded by his loving family.

Joe was born on January 5, 1930 to Chester and Helen (Vandervort) Carr. He attended school in Lander, WY and graduated in 1947. Joe served four years in the US Navy and was honorably discharged in 1952.
He met the love of his life, Beverly Olsen in 1955. They married in 1957 and to this union three daughters were born.

He worked for Junek's for 15 years, then owned and operated his own service station. He returned to Junek's and continued to work there until he retired in 1995. He then had more time for his church activities, car restoration, woodworking and volunteering. He was a member of the Spearfish Volunteer Fire Department, the American Legion Post 164 for which he was a Local, District and County Commander and Legionnaire of the Year in 1985. He was also a member of the Methodist Men, Model T Club and the Honorary Color Guard.

Joe is survived by his wife of 59 years, Beverly Carr; daughters, Jody (Meade) Curington, Rapid City, Martha (Steve) Stinson, Spearfish and Myrna (Bill) Rossow, Whitewood; brothers, Jerry and Jack Carr and sister, Patty Barr. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at the United Methodist Church in Spearfish with Pastor Scott McKirdy officiating. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to benefit the Spearfish United Methodist Church and the Spearfish Veterans Monument. Inurnment will take place at Black Hills National Cemetery at a later date.
