Obituary

John "Jack" Williams Jr., 87 of Deadwood, passed away on February 12, 2012 at Fort Meade Department of Veterans Affairs surrounded by his family.

He was born in Globe AZ, on August 31, 1924 to John and Mary (Banvelthoven) Williams of Whales England. He was raised in the U.S., England, and Northern Rhodesia, Africa. He was in the Rhodesian National Guard. He then came to America and joined the U.S. Army. He served for 5 years and rose to the rank of staff sergeant. He served in Germany where he met and married the love of his life Dodie Kerr.

He loved golf, was an avid photographer, and traveled to England regularly. He was a teacher (mad scientist) for 28 years at Lead-Deadwood High School. Jack belonged to the Blue Lodge, Shriners, American Legion, Elks, Lead-Deadwood Teachers Association, formerly Tomahawk Country Club.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years Dodie, special niece and nephew, and numerous others. He finally went hunting for an elephant's nest in a rhubarb tree. At Jack's request a private funeral service will take place. A memorial has been established to benefit the Shriners Children's Hospital.
