Aladdin rancher, John W. Whalen, Sr., passed away March 22, 2016. The son of Mat and Maggie (Pearson) Whalen, John was born February 19, 1922 in the ranch house his mother and father built at Aladdin. He lived his entire life in his birth home.
He attended elementary school at Aladdin and graduated from Sundance High School in 1941. He married Elizabeth Jordan Hardy on December 9, 1941.
John loved his animals, farming, ranching, hunting, country dances, camping with Elizabeth and reminiscing with his many friends. He possessed a strong community spirit and was always willing to lend a helping hand.
He is survived by his children, Grace Whalen (Hank Reese) of Dubois, Bill Whalen (Sandy) and George Whalen (Jeanne); grandchildren, Katie Whalen, Mat Whalen and Sabrina Whalen (Frank Mitchell) all of Aladdin; special care companions, Roberta Noyce and Jan Hell and beloved dog Pokey. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elizabeth; brother, Mat Whalen and sister, Elizabeth "Toots" Hejde.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
