John L. Sullivan 72, of Spearfish, died Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

John was born July 17, 1941 at Rapid City, SD to Harry and Calla (Ross) Sullivan. John attended Black Hills State University, before entering the US Army in 1960.

He married Beverly Gilbert in 1961and to this union they had two children, Wendy and Bradley.

John married Billie Jean Emeline on June 12, 2013, his long lost love of 54 years. They shared a love story unheard.

John is survived by the love of his life, Billie Jean; daughter, Wendy Almquist; son, Bradley Sullivan; six grandchildren; two step-children, Kevin Clem and Dena Werlinger; four step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; brother, Major General Robert (Betty) Sullivan; sisters, Marlys Sell and Darlene Clasemen and numerous close nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife Beverly.

Memorial services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at the First Baptist Church, 1120 N 5th Street in Spearfish. Inurnment, with full military honors, will be at 11:30 A.M. on Monday, June 23, 2014 at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
