Obituary

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 AM, September 28, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Spearfish for John Aberle, Sr., 89, who died suddenly September 19, 2015 at his home in Spearfish.

He was born October 25, 1925 in Selfridge, ND to Michael and Julia (Schmaltz) Aberle,the oldest of seven boys. John also had seven sisters. His family later moved to Arpan,SD and leased several area farms over the years. John was married to Leta Faye(Perry) in Lead, SD in 1947 for 57 years until her death in 2003.

John had seven children from this marriage; John (Teddi) Aberle, Jr., Valrico, FL, Geri(James) Riggs, Lead, SD, Richard (Kathy) Aberle, Watford City, ND, Jake (Sharon)Aberle, Sturgis, SD, Joe (Sandi) Aberle, Gillette, WY, Cliff (Marcia) Aberle, Brookline
MO, and Mary Smith, Whitewood, SD, and twenty grandchildren; Tammie Brock, Tracy McArthur, Charlene Aberle, Christopher Aberle, Toby Aberle, Renae Riggs, Rachelle Riggs, James Riggs, Nicole Riggs, Justin Riggs, Kenny Smith, David Smith, Dusty Aberle,Derek Aberle, Dallas Aberle, Jordan Aberle, Jason Aberle, Lana Aberle, Chris Collins and Lance Collins.

In 2004, John married Mary Therese Kaiser in Rapid City, SD. Mary Therese had ten children. Her first husband died in 1969 due to cancer. John enlisted in the Navy July 14, 1944 and served honorably on transport ships during WWII in the South Pacific. After the war he went to work as a contract miner at the Homestake Mine and lived in Lead. In 1974, the family moved to Albany, NY where John was a Federal Mine Inspector. He later returned to Homestake Mine where he
worked until retirement and then moved to Spearfish.

In his younger years he enjoyed snowmobiling, bowling, hunting, motorcycles, and racing of any kind. In later years he loved to dine out and enjoyed dancing at the Senior Center with his wife, Mary Therese, until his health failed. He loved animals, especially
his German Shepherd, Bruno. He also loved to garden and grew and sold vegetables when his health was still good. Up until the last few days of his life he was still working outside in his yard.

John is survived by his wife, Mary Therese; six of his children, his ten step children,twenty grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, his brothers, Bill, Tony and Joe Aberle, CO and a sister, Jennie Staud TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Leta Faye Aberle, and son, John Aberle Jr and great-great grandchild Vash Bullock, sisters, Maggie, Mary,Regina, Judy, Annabelle and Eva and brothers; Wendy, Kenneth and Matthew.

Visitation will be from 3:00 to 6:00 PM, Sunday, September 27, 2015 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel, Spearfish. Vigils services will follow at 7:30 PM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Spearfish. Burial will take place at Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis September
28 at 3 PM. following Mass and a lunch at the church.
