Obituary

John C. "Jack" Schelldorf, 80, passed away Monday evening, January 9, 2012, at the Close to Home Hospice House in Gillette, WY.

He was born September 17, 1931, to Alfred and Roslyn (Carr) Schelldorf at Belle Fourche, South Dakota. That fall Jack and his parents moved to what is now the Schelldorf Ranch south of Sundance. He remembered the depression and planned for the next one coming.

Jack attended the Hewes Country School and Black Flats Country School. Later he would graduate from Sundance High School in 1949 where he enjoyed participating in football and track. He did not care much for the academics and studying, but had the highest IOWA scores of his senior class. He always enjoyed farming and ranching. He took great pride in his Hereford cattle, the sheep, horses, and his border collie, Mandy.

He married his high school sweetheart Janice Roberts in Sundance, WY on June 20, 1954. They made their home on the ranch with three children, Marilyn, David, and Nancy. Jack enjoyed snowmobiling, family gatherings, hunting with family, guns, leathercraft, and working cattle. The trip of his life was attending a Dallas Cowboy football game at the newly built Texas Stadium. His greatest enjoyment was his grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Janice, of Sundance. Together they have three children, a daughter Marilyn (Bob) Christensen of Gillette, son David (Linda) Schelldorf of Sundance and daughter Nancy (Jim) Long of Gillette. Grandchildren Mark (Erika) Christensen, Julie (James) Innes, Marci Christensen, Angela Christensen, James Christensen, Stacy (Aaron) Hemmah, Joshua Long, and Briana Long. He also had three step-grandchildren Donald Simmons, Jr., Shelly (Chance) McVay, and Chad (Jennifer) Simmons.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Roslyn Schelldorf; Grandparents John and Anna (Hagge) Schelldorf; George and Florence (Miller) Carr.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, January 14, 2012 at the Sundance United Methodist Church in Sundance, WY. A memorial has been established to benefit the Crook County Museum Foundation or the Close to Home Hospice House in Gillette.
