Obituary
John Richards, 85 of Spearfish, passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
John aka: Grump, Gramps, Old Man, Old Walrus, Lit' Abner and Abby was born on March 3, 1929 at his home in Orpha, WY to Clare and Agnes (Brewer) Richards. He joined the US Air Force in 1947 and was stationed in Adak on the Aleutian Islands in Alaska. He transferred to Ellsworth where he met his future wife Patricia Sherman. They were married on November 1, 1950 in Deadwood. They later moved to Spearfish and purchased a farm where they raised their four children, Ed, Liz, George and Margaret. He worked at the Homestake Sawmill and Mine retiring in 1990.
He is survived by his children; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; siblings, Harry, Clem, Alice and Mary Angle; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife; parents; brothers, Roy and Mike and sister, Ella.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish. Burial will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by the Spearfish Honor Guard.
