John David Maki, died May 21, 2017 at the David M Dorsett Healthcare Center in Spearfish from complications due to hip surgery, after a fall.

David was born on June 8, 1941 at St Joseph Hospital in Deadwood, SD, the son of John Jacob and Hilma Helen (Johnson) Maki. He attended school in Deadwood and spent most of his adult life in Deadwood and Spearfish. He retired from Black Hills State College, where he worked for many years.

He is survived by his sisters, Jean (Kent) Berck of Rapid City, Jackie (Nick) Heinen of Spearfish; brothers, Jim Maki of California, Charlie(Cheryl) Maki of Tucson and Vern Thompson of Belle Fourche. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father and mother.

Private services and inurnment at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Deadwood will be held in June when all of the family will be together.
