Obituary

John William Jeffery, known affectionately as "Jack", was born on March 11, 1944 and passed away peacefully at his home in Spearfish, South Dakota, on February 12, 2025, at the age of 80. Jack grew up & attended school in Lead, SD.  Jack's professional life was largely dedicated to his role as a machinist at Homestake Mining Company. He briefly worked at Denver Airport before returning to Homestake. His work was not just a job but a significant part of who he was, reflecting his meticulous and focused nature.

He married Joan Dittler on November 7th, 1970.  To this union three children were born:  Carrie Jo, Lori, and Jay. They later divorced. On December 18, 1986, Jack married the love of his life, Nina Kelly. They expanded their family when Jack adopted Nina's children:  Angella, James, Casey, and Josh.  Their new life together was never quiet.

A man of the outdoors, Jack found his spiritual solace in nature, often saying that the open spaces were his place of worship. His love for the outdoors was not just spiritual but also a favorite pastime; he was an avid hunter and fisherman, activities that allowed him to connect with nature and his family. Jack was also known for his storytelling, which captured the hearts of many, weaving tales of his adventures and life's lessons.

Jack is survived by his wife Nina F. Jeffery, their children Lori A. Railsback (Larry), Angella D. Jeffery, Jay A. Jeffery (Meagan), James F. Jeffery (Jessie), Casey S. Jeffery (Hollie), and Josh D. Jeffery (Tiffany), and his brother James "Jim" Jeffery. He was a proud grandfather to 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, John Charles and Dorothy Mae Jeffery, his daughter Carrie J. Johnson, and his nephew Todd D. Jeffery.

In lieu of flowers the family has set up a memorial, contributions can be sent in care of James Jeffery, 1928 Ward Ave, Spearfish, SD 57783.

The family would like to thank everyone for their sympathy and kindness shown during this difficult time. Jack's stories, love, and laughter will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels and Isburg Crematory of Spearfish. Online condolences may be written at www.fidler-isburgfuneralchapels.com
