John William Ehrman Jr., 77 of Upton, Wyoming died Friday, July 20, 2012 at Hospice House of Gillette.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at the Upton Community Center, burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Upton.
Memorials have been established to benefit the Upton Volunteer Fire Department and the Upton Senior Center.
John was born April 6, 1935 to John William Ehrman Sr. and Helen (Yardley) Ehrman in Brush, CO. He was raised on a farm around Planter, CO. John contracted Polio at the age of 15 and moved to St. Francis, KS to live with his older sister, Faye and her husband Wayne. He graduated from high school in St. Francis, Kansas. After graduation he purchased a gas station in Otis, CO and married Karen Lieurance in 1954 and to this union three children were born; John III who died in infancy Deborah, and Donovan.
John traveled throughout the west joining wheat harvesting crews. He then started in the oil fields in Wyoming, then traveled to Nebraska, Montana and finally settled in Wyoming.
In 1963 he married Dorothy Clothier and raised Debbie, Tommy, Kathy and Randy. In 1975 he married Eileen Uzel.
John continued to work in the oil fields, mostly as a tool pusher, then as a drilling superintendent. He was proud of the fact that he built three oil rigs from the ground up. He later started Ehrman Drilling. When John retired from the oil fields, He and Eileen bought the Western Bar and Cafe in Upton Wy.
John love spending time with the kids, fishing and playing cards. He was an avid Gin player and taught all his kids and grandkids how to play the game.
John will always be remembered for his smile, laughter and his ability to tell a great story.
John was a member of the Elks Lodge and the Moose Club in Gillette.
Survivors include his children; Donovan (Sheryl) Ehrman, Debbie Chago- Hernandez, Kathy (Del) Gries, and Randy Ehrman, his step-children; Debbie (Gary) Adams, Tommy (Mary Jo) Divis, Theresa (Mike) Shannon, Ron (Cathy) Uzel and Diane (Jerry) Steffons, his brother, Bob (Arlene) Ehrman, 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen Ehrman, his parents, son, John Ehrman III, brother, Fred Ehrman and two sisters, Marjorie and Frances Ehrman.
