Joanne Grace Banthin of Spearfish, SD passed away peacefully on May 14, 2025, at the age of 92 years old.

Joanne was born in Buffalo, New York to John and Ruth Deveso on September 28, 1932. Her family moved to Santa Monica, CA while Joanne was in high school. She had several occupations including working in her parents' restaurant, as a beautician, and working at McDonald Douglas Aircraft as an aircraft assembler. In her free time, she loved to race around with her little red two-seater MG. Joanne married Ralph Banthin in 1954, and they had three wonderful children; Brian, Judy, and Karen. Being a mother was one of Joanne's greatest roles. In 2002, she moved to Spearfish, SD where she resided for the last 23 years.

Joanne was the heart of her family — the one who welcomed everyone with open arms and an open heart. Her home was a haven for laughter and storytelling. Whether it was a Friday night with her grandkids or a full house of friends and family, Joanne made sure everyone felt at home. She had a magical way of turning the ordinary into something special.

Joanne was a deeply creative soul, known for her love of crafting and her talent for transforming ordinary spaces into works of art. She poured her heart into handmade projects that brought joy to those around her. Receiving a handmade card from Joanne is something her friends and family will cherish forever. A passionate gardener, she found purpose in nurturing life from the soil, always surrounded by her floral creations. Her love for animals was boundless. Whether caring for pets or watching wildlife in her field, she treated all creatures with kindness and compassion. She was known to take in stray cats and nurture birds in need. Her warmth, creativity, stories, and gentle spirit will be dearly missed.

Joanne is survived by her sister-in-law Donna; her daughters Judy and Karen; six grandchildren Ryan, Krystn (Stephen), Nicole (Luke), Kelsey (Daniel), Austin (Dalyn), and CJ (Macy); and her nine great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents John and Ruth, her brother Mike, and her son Brian.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Joanne's memory to the Western Hills Humane Society in Spearfish.

There will be no services at this time.

Cremation arrangements were under the care of Isburg Crematory of Spearfish.
