Joan Hazel Crawford was born April 16, 1937, in Dorsey, Nebraska to Lawrence and Hazel (Hartland) Crawford. She passed away surrounded by her family on June 28, 2024, after a brief illness.
Her family moved frequently so she lived in Nebraska, Minnesota, South Dakota, and Wyoming. She married Richard Farley on June 8th, 1955. To this union three children were born: Ricky, Jeannette, and Valerie. Raising her children on the farm brought her great joy. She loved to garden and always planted a huge one each year. Joan worked many jobs during her life: nurses aid, construction flagger, custodian at BHSU and Spearfish School District, and a receptionist.
She married Gaylen Manker in 1995 and moved to Iowa. After Gaylen's death in 2010 she moved back to Spearfish to be closer to her family. Joan loved to sew, garden, and read.
Surviving Joan are her sisters: Dollie (Marvin) Blauvelt, Ollie Parks, and Donna Robinson, her brothers: Larry (Jenny) Crawford and Lindall (Barb) Crawford. Her son Rick (Paula) Farley of Spearfish South Dakota, daughter Jeannette (Steve) Burquist of Craig, Colorado, daughter Valerie Guevara of Craig, Colorado. Her grandchildren: Josh (Sacha), Jared (Katie), Sophie and Wyatt, Cory (Shaye), Tanya (Randall), Natalia (Sam), and Rocky. Her great-grandchildren Zakariah, Zaiden, Zandria, Jade, Brayden, and Isabella.
Joan is preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Hazel Crawford, brother Wilbur Crawford, sister Wanda Schultz, husbands Richard Farley and Gaylen Manker, sister's in-law Patricia Crawford and Evelyn Farley, brother's in-law Don Parks and Dick Schultz.
