Jim Sparks, age 87, from Spearfish, SD passed away at the Spearfish Canyon Health Care Center on May 18, 202. In his early years, he grew up in Oklahoma and Nevada. Then he was drafted into the Army in the early 1960’s and following discharge, he moved to Alaska.

He met his wife, Jeannette, and they moved to Prairie City, SD in 1969. They purchased the Matson General Store. In addition to running the store, he did commercial painting and trapping. In 1988, they moved to Spearfish and bought Hillsview Trailer Court, which they owned until 2016. He also dealt blackjack in Deadwood for over 20 years at various casinos.

Jim is survived by his wife, Jeannette, and daughter, Michele Hill, and son-in-law, William Hill of Rapid City.
