Obituary

Jessie Laura Renner, 87, passed away Monday, December 16, 2013, at Fountain Springs Healthcare in Rapid City. She was born January 31, 1926, in a sod house on the family farm in Hay Springs, NE, to Wilsie and Mary Divan.

Jessie attended high school in Hay Springs and went to college in Chadron, after which she taught school in the same one-room school she attended as a youngster.

While teaching school she met and then married Gordon Renner on July 28, 1945. To this marriage four children were born: Jack (Patty) Renner, Diane Renner, Steve (Debbie) Renner and Ann Renner (Mike Morgan). She was a blessing to all her family — loving and nurturing the whole clan which includes 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Jessie was a true country girl. She often delighted her family with stories about growing up on the farm. Jessie and Gordon moved to Lead early in their marriage. In 1964, Jessie and Gordon bought a cabin in Maitland, SD, where she could once again raise chickens and ducks and was able to have some horses.

At the Renner table on a Sunday you never knew who or how many would show up for Jessie's famous fried chicken. There was always room at the table for one more and in her heart too.

Jessie spent many years working in the home health care field. She was a caring compassionate person who went above and beyond the duties of the job making lasting friendships. She was a true advocate for the elderly and those in need of a friend.

Jessie loved a good garage sale. She loved to search for whatever her family and friends needed. She was also an avid reader and instilled a love of reading in all her children. There wasn't anything she wouldn't do for the people she loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilsie and Mary Divan; siblings, Paul, Pearl and Ann; and her loving husband Gordon. She is survived by her children and their spouses, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 19, at Saint Andrews Episcopal Church in Rapid City, with the Rev. Kathy Monson Lutes officiating. Visitation will be one hour before services. Lunch will be served after the service. Burial will be at Mountain Lawn Cemetery in Lead.

Arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels and Crematory Service of Spearfish.
