Jerry Jewell, 74, of Spearfish, pounded his last nail on January 26, 2019.

Jerry grew up in the Bryant and Clark, SD areas. He graduated from Clark High School in 1962. In high school he was active in basketball and baseball. He continued to play softball, golf and bowled for many years. Jerry loved music, dancing and singing along at family jam sessions. He was a member of the South Dakota National Guard for six years.

Jerry worked in the construction field his entire life, beginning in Eastern South Dakota. In 1978 he moved with his family to Spearfish where he worked for Ainsworth Benning Construction and Pope and Talbot. Jerry was a master carpenter and his beautiful finish work can be seen in buildings around the Black Hills.

Jerry married Sherry Funk in 1968. He was very proud of their four children and delighted in their grandchildren. His most enjoyable times were spent watching them play sports.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sherry, and his children, Brent (Karen) Jewell, CA, Nikki (Nick) Larson, Black Hawk, Brady Jewell, NC, and Tyson Jewell, Spearfish. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Dustin and Faith Jewell, MA; Zack Crowell, MI; Bradyn Rico, Black Hawk; and Charley and Paisley Jewell, Spearfish, his great-grandson Theodore Crowell, MI; his brother, Dick (JoAnn) Jewell, Sturgis; his sister, Pam (Jerry) Petersen, Baltic and seven nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Alice Jewell, and his father and mother-in-law, Sam and Susie Funk.

Jerry will be remembered for his sense of humor and his willingness to help anyone out in exchange for a steak and a bottle of whiskey.

Visitation for Jerry will be from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 31, at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 1 at 1:00 p.m. at Countryside Church in Spearfish. A tribute to Jerry will follow services, from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at the Scoreboard.
