Obituary

Jean Miller, 81 of Spearfish passed away Friday, January 24, 2014 at the David Dorsett Nursing Home in Spearfish, with her family by her side.
Jean was born to Les and Maxine Tippey on November 17, 1932 in Aberdeen, South Dakota. They moved to Deadwood when she was a small child. Later her family moved to Whitewood, where she was raised.
Jean grew up in Whitewood and attended school in Whitewood & Sturgis. Jean married John R. "Dick" Miller on December 2, 1951 in Whitewood. They lived west of Spearfish by Crow Peak where they ranched and raised their four children. She was the caretaker for the rest area west of Spearfish for eighteen years.
Jean enjoyed time with her family and friends. She enjoyed traveling, knitting, crocheting, playing cards and square dancing with her husband of 62 years. Jean was involved with the Crow Peak Extension Club, The United Church of Christ and Red Hat Society.
Jean leaves behind her husband, Dick of 62 years of marriage, four children; Jerry Miller (Kim) of Laramie WY, David Miller (Mary) of Silverton OR, Susan Hendrickson of Casper WY and Roger Miller (Hayley) of Silverton OR, 11 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister & brother-in-law Marlys & Jim Meyer of Sturgis, SD, sister-in-law June Cardinal of Keiser OR, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Les & Maxine Tippey and brother, Lyle Tippey. Jean was a devoted wife, mother, grandma, sister, aunt, and a wonderful friend to all. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Funeral services will be at the United Church of Christ in Spearfish on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at 11:00 am with a reception to follow, visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery in Spearfish.
A memorial has been established to benefit Hospice of the Northern Hills.
