Javier Torres, age 85, passed away at 6a.m.on November 4, 2024 at Monument Health Hospital located in Sturgis.
Javier was married for 61 years, and is survived by his loving wife, Arvella.
Javier was born in Michoacán, Mexico, on January 31, 1939. He graduated from Edgemont High School in 1957, and enlisted in the Air Force in 1958. Javier started working with the Homestake Goldmine in Lead, South Dakota in 1964 as an underground miner and Safety Inspector. Javier enjoyed church, fishing with his family, hunting, football, and baseball.
Javier is predeceased by his Daughter Christina Torres, Grandson Christopher Capps, Parents Delores and Candido Torres, and Brothers Ted, Gonzalo, Jase, and Candido Torres, and Sister, Connie Torres.
Javier is lovingly remembered by his sisters, Maggie Atkinson, Mary Hogan, Evangeline McClaren, and Eleanor Ribordy, Daughters Angela Young, and Jaylene Capps with husband Jerry Capps, and Granddaughters Megan Snow and Olivia McQueen with husband Jaydon McQueen.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00P.M. Thursday, November 14, 2024, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Lead, South Dakota. A rosary will be held at 6:00P.M. during the visitation. The following day, Friday, November 15, 2024, a Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00A.M. at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Burial with military honors will take place at the Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, South Dakota after the service.
