Obituary

Jason Hood, 41, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on July 29, 2014 at his home in Vernal, Utah.

Jason James Hood was born on September 17, 1972, to Earl James "Jim" Hood and Judie Hood in Spearfish, SD. He resided in Spearfish until his parent's divorce in 1975 when he, his mother and brother moved to Casper, WY.

Jason started school in Casper and then moved to Kingwood, TX with his mother and brother in his kindergarten year. He attended Elm Grove Elementary through the sixth grade when his family moved to Scottsdale, AZ, to be closer to his maternal grandparents. While in Kingwood, Jason was very active in soccer. Jason graduated from Horizon High School in Scottsdale in 1991 where he garnered many life long friends. He was very active in he youth program and youth choir at Paradise Valley United Methodist Church. After graduation he attended Yavapai Community College in Prescott, AZ. To know Jason was to be his friend. He was a friend to all and his friends all loved him as did his family.

Jason began his work career after college at American Express where he met his first wife, Lisa Hall and helped her raise her two children, Keisha and Preston. They divorced in 2007. Jason always enjoyed the outdoors and soon moved on to work in landscape management both in the greater Phoenix area and the Tucson area.

On February 14, 2012, Jason married his beloved wife, Sheila Kronberg Palffy, and again accepted the responsibility of being a father to her daughter, Ella. Ella was the apple of his eye and he so adored her and she him. After their marriage, Jason changed careers and began driving a water truck for the oilfields, first in Williston, ND and then in Vernal, UT where the family relocated. He had recently taken a new job as an oilfield pumper.

Jason is survived by his beloved wife, Sheila and adored daughter, Ella, both of Vernal, UT; mother, Judie (Jesse) Sutphin of Green Valley, AZ; beloved brother, Jared Hood of Tucson, AZ; father, Jim (Kathleen) Hood of Spearfish and New York City; half brother, Stewart (Michaela) Hood of Spearfish; great aunt, Glyde Turpin of Denver, CO; aunt, Mary Jo (George) Dern, of Sweet Home, OR; uncles, Bob Witzel of Cheyenne, WY, and Jerry (Patsy) Hood of Nemo, SD; three step-sisters, Brenda Newhouse of Mesa, AZ, Mindy (Erik) Preston of Tucson and Kristi Sutphin of Tucson and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Robert and Irma Witzel of Newcastle, WY and Sun City West, AZ and paternal grandparents, Earl and Florence Hood of Aberdeen and Spearfish. Jason has been cremated and inurnment will be in the Witzel Family plot in Newcastle at a later date.

Jason was an organ donor and his eyes have been given to someone so he will live on through them. The family hopes to meet the recipient someday.
