Janetta Newton Hill, 82, of Spearfish, South Dakota passed away Monday, December 13, 2010 at Spearfish Regional Hospital. She was a former resident of Owaneco, Illinois, and Puryear, Tennessee.

She was born on July 3, 1928, in Burlington, Kansas, the daughter of Leslie M. and Frances Newton. Before her second birthday, she moved with her parents to Puryear, Tennessee. Janetta graduated from David Lipscomb College in 1950 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, and Vanderbilt University in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. She worked at the Henry County Medical Center in Paris, Tennessee until marrying Ray E. Hill, Jr. on January 6, 1957. He preceded her in death on January 1, 1999. She spent the next 23 years as an Army wife living in Germany, Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri, Hawaii, and Nashville, Tennessee, among others and raised four daughters. In 1972, Janetta with her family moved to Owaneco, Illinois where she worked at the Taylorville Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 1993. In 2007, Janetta moved to Spearfish, South Dakota where she was a resident of Edgewood Vista until her death.

Janetta was a loving wife and mother and is survived by her daughters Jannetta "Fran" Clemons of Springfield Illinois; Martha "Marti" (Mike) Shake of Sturgis, Michigan; Catherine "Cathy" (Bryan) Lessly of Spearfish and Rebecca "Becky" (Tony) Lewis of Murrieta, California; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and multiple cousins.

Janetta was a faithful Christian and was a member of the Northern Hills Church of Christ in Spearfish and previously the Pana Church of Christ in Illinois and the Puryear Church of Christ in Tennesse.

Memorial services will be at Northern Hills Church of Christ in Spearfish on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at 5:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please direct any donations to the Northern Hills Church of Christ in memory of Janetta. She loved and adored her church family.
