Janet
Thoresen
September 15, 1937 – May 30, 2026
Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel
1:00 - 3:00 pm
Janet Rose Chyba Thoresen, 88, passed away May 30, 2026, in Spearfish, South Dakota at Edgewood. On September 15, 1937, Janet was born to Joseph Chyba and Ann (Fridrich) Chyba in Deadwood, South Dakota.
In her freshman year at DHS, Janet invited Bob Thoresen, a junior, to a Girl Scout dance held above the old fire station, at that time across from the Franklin Hotel. They were married in 1956.
When her “stay-at-home-mom days were over”, Janet worked at various jobs including bank teller, legal secretary and bailiff for the Judicial System in Deadwood. In her spare time, Janet enjoyed going to auctions and collecting and refinishing antiques. She was always enthusiastic to join in any new adventure and traveled the world.
Janet is survived by her daughter, Kathryn (Terry) Caudill; granddaughter, Eryn (Jess) Moser; great-granddaughters, Reagyn and Riley; son, Don (Tina) Thoresen; granddaughter, Cassie; great-grandchildren, Neveah and Aiden; grandchildren, Zachary and Hannah Thoresen; brother, Bob Chyba; and several nieces and nephews. Blessed, as well, to know and love her are lifelong friends, the Dunwiddies.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; brother, Ron Chyba; son, Michael Thoresen, and grandson, Erik Caudill.
A visitation memorial will be held from 1:00-3:00PM Friday, June 12, 2026, at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel. She will be laid to rest privately at Oakridge Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels and Isburg Crematory of Spearfish. Online condolences may be written at www.fidler-isburgfuneralchapels.com
