Obituary

Janet Catherine (Williams) Pullen died peacefully with her husband holding her hand, on Friday May 2, 2025 after a 14 year battle with two different types of cancer, in her home in Upton WY.

She was born July 8, 1953, to Ralph L. and Evelyn (Sporre) Williams in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Her family moved to Rapid City, South Dakota, when she was two, where her father owned and operated Rapid Crystal Ice Company. Janet graduated from Rapid City Stevens High School in 1971. She attended South Dakota State University in Brookings for one year before marrying her high school sweetheart, Daniel N. Pullen, on October 13, 1973.

Janet spent the next 20 years following her husband throughout his Navy career that took them to Washington State, Japan, California, and back to Washington State, where they settled for more than 30 years in Oak Harbor, raising their two children, David Royal and Leslie Mae who were her pride and joy. She resumed her education at Skagit Valley College and Chapman University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. Janet worked as an accountant and QuickBooks advisor for Jones Accounting Associates in Oak Harbor, Washington, for more than 20 years.

Janet was an active member of the Methodist church, played handbells, and was always willing to share her story of faith and hardship—as she continued her fight against cancer—as a way to inspire others. After retiring from Jones Accounting, she and her husband moved to Upton, Wyoming, in 2016 to be closer to her aging parents. She worked as an accountant at S&S Performance and volunteered at the Upton Food Bank. Janet regularly enjoyed the outdoors, going camping, hiking, playing in the snow and playing in her gardens. Her hobbies included sewing, cooking, canning, reading, and handbells. One of her favorite pastimes was looking up and studying the stars, often staying up through the night stargazing, and traveling to an annual star party each summer to share her star stories with other astronomy enthusiasts. She was an expert handbell player with the Oak Harbor Methodist Church Handbell Choir and the Upton Community Handbell choir.

She will be remembered for her kind and generous soul, quiet strength and unwavering devotion to helping anyone in need. She touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege to know her. She is survived by her spouse of 51 years, Dan; her two children David and Leslie; her sister Joan (Dave) Mason; her four beloved grandchildren (Gerard, Caelyn, Nolan, and William) and her niece and nephew, Alex Mason and Jenna (Matthew) DePorre.
