Obituary
Janet Louise Petersen, 65, of Spearfish passed away on March 9th, 2012 in her own home with many family members close by her side. She displayed amazing strength in her struggle with cancer the last 18 months. Even with the illness she was selfless and still cared about everyone before herself.
Janet was born on Aug. 15, 1946 in Hartley, Iowa to Emil Herman Kamradt and Lucy Jane Warnke Kamradt. They lived on the family farm in Sutherland, Iowa through her whole childhood where she had so many great memories. Janet was baptized on Sept. 11, 1946 and confirmed on March 26, 1961 in Bethel Lutheran church in Sutherland. She attended elementary school and high school there in town. She graduated and received her high school diploma in 1965. Janet received a certificate to be a CNA and worked at Lutheran Hospital where she met the love of her life.
She married Larry Petersen on July 1, 1968 in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sioux City, Iowa. They were blessed with five children in their first seventeen years of marriage. Later in life they adopted one of their grandsons. Janet loved cross stitching, reading and spending time with her family. She especially loved the times she had with her grandchildren. She enjoyed watching them grow even if some were through pictures and others being right beside her. Janet was strong, compassionate and caring. She was so proud of her family. She had strong faith in her church and in God. She and Larry dedicated their lives to their family and home.
She is survived by her mother, Lucy Jane Warnke Kamradt, sister, Margaret Larson, her niece, Lennelle Larson and nephew, Matthew Larson, her husband, Larry Petersen, her children Shelly Petersen, Ann Marie (Robert) Wilhelm, Melissa Johnson, Wayne Petersen (Tammy Elsen) and Michelle Demma (Andrew Demma), with grandchildren; Joseph Petersen, Katelyn Wilhelm, Anthony Petersen, Carolyn Petersen, Kiana Moore, Victoria Wilhelm, Michael Petersen, Lee Ann Johnson, Samantha Demma, and Ayden Petersen.
Janet was preceded in death by her father Emil Herman Kamradt, some aunts, uncles and cousins, in-laws Clarence and Edna Petersen.
Visitation will be 2-4 PM Sunday, March 11, 2012 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish. Funeral Services will be at 8:30 AM Monday, March 12, 2012 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Spearfish.
