James R. Schuchardt

James Russell Schuchardt, 80 of Spearfish, left us for the joys of heaven on February 26, 2026.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 2, 2026 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Spearfish.

Jim was born to Leslie and Deloris (Buechler) Schuchardt on June 17, 1945 in Deadwood, SD. He graduated from Spearfish High School in 1969. He then attended and graduated from Black Hills State University. After graduating he worked construction for Al Harwood transitioning to Wheelers Post and Pole in Whitewood, SD until retirement.

Jim married the love of his life, Mary (Jane) Weber, literally the girl next door, on August 19, 1972 in Spearfish. Throughout the years they had several “children” ranging from Brownie to Pedro and lastly Romeo. Each pet brought daily love and joy to their lives.

Jim was faith driven man writing poetry and many sermons in the last few years and delivering them to the residents where he spent his final few years due to the rapid progression of his MS. He loved writing, reading, and listening to music for hours. He enjoyed hunting and being outdoors but his love for fly fishing was more than anything else.

He wanted to especially thank Mark and Terri (Sprigler) Weber for caring for his every need and loving him over the last ten and half years. Also, Kurt and Joyce (Weber) Hall for assisting them when needed.

He is survived by his sister, Joy and Rick Putoff, their children and grandchildren, Stephanie and Dylan, Annie, Kyra and Rylan Place, and Nathaniel Putoff; sister Rebecca and John Hine, their children and grandchildren, Lisa Swanhardt, Austin and Melissa, Madison and Matt, Nick, Joshua Jacob and Steffani, James, Jack Joseph, Steph, Peter, Paul Lawrence; in-laws, Kurt and Joyce Hall, Mark and Terri Weber, Brian and Carol Policky, Tom and Doris Deis, Marvin and Terri Ward and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jim is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane Schuchardt; his parents Leslie and Deloris; and brother Gilbert Schuchardt.

Jim will dearly be missed by his beloved family and friends. May he rest in the Lord’s embrace.
