James P. Leonard 84 of Avon, CT died January 1, 2023.

James was born to Joe and Martha (Badge) Leonard in Pierre, SD. He graduated from Pierre High School and then joined the US Air Force serving his country for four years. James then attended and graduated from Black Hills State University and was later recognized in 1992 as an Outstanding Alumni. He owned Leonard Properties for many years. James was known as one of the best money managers and was recognized as being one of the best by Inside Business, Money Manager Previews (Wall Street Journal) and Nelson Publications.

He is survived by his wife Barbara Leonard, son Patrick, daughter, Jessica, grandchildren; Owen,  Julian and Cate  and sisters; Mary (Ron) Pritchett, Peggy (Dick) Ziezer and Catheryn (Larry) Mitchell.
