Jim was born on January 26, 1961 to Harold and Catherine (Kaufman) Grubb in McLeansboro, IL. He graduated from McLeansboro High School in 1979, and went on to college at Rend Lake Community College. He married Susan Barnett on August 6, 1991 in Mt. Vernon, IL. Together they moved their family to Nebraska and then on to South Dakota where they have made their home for the last 10 years.

Jim loved baseball, camping, jeeping, fishing, cooking and barbequing. He especially enjoyed teaching his kids and grandkids to play baseball and fish. The St. Louis Cardinals always held a special place in his heart since listening to the games with his grandmother on a transistor radio.

Jim is survived by his wife Suzy of Lead, son Jesse (Kari) Ripley of Kearney, NE; daughters Cameron (Michael) Lefler and Shanna Mosier both of Rapid City; grandchildren Jaidin, Bradon, Annika, Trey, Ember, Kadyn, Edyn and Jozie; mother Catherine Grubb of McLeansboro, IL; brothers Bill Mezo, Bob Mezo, Karl Mezo and sister Caroline Juengling.
