James "Jim" Vernon Greco, 61, died Saturday, September 10, 2016 at his home in Spearfish.
He was born in Deadwood on June 10th, 1955, to the late David and Iola Greco. He was preceded in death by his wife and soul mate, Carol Greco, in September 2013. Jim was also preceded in death by his brother Ken in 1974. Jim is survived by his son, Tony Greco, daughter-in-law, Allison, and grandsons, Connor and Colin, all of Rapid City. He is also survived by his brothers, Richard Greco of Aberdeen and Glenn Greco of Sun City West, AZ, and his sister, Carlene Veltman of Sumas, WA.
Jim loved life and loved his family even more. He graduated from Lead High School in 1973 and was a man of many talents and professions, from electrician to financial planner to tour guide. Jim was also long-time active member of the Lead Masonic Lodge. Jim was ever the entertainer, acting in many community theater performances with great friends or melodramas reenacting the rough times of early western Deadwood. His greatest gift was as a story-teller, relating (and perhaps embellishing) many stories of his life and adventures. He was most alive when he had the rapt attention of those around him.
Extremely friendly and outgoing, Jim surrounded himself with other people in love with life, none of which who loved life more than his wife, Carol. He was a caring father, loving husband, and great brother and son, and a doting pet lover and will be missed by many.
In lieu of flowers, Jim's family is asking for donations to be made to the Western Hills Humane Society of Spearfish.
Memorial services for Jim will take place at 2pm Saturday, September 17th at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Lead. There will be a fellowship with food and drink immediately following at the Christian Ministry Center next to the church.
