James Joseph Flynn, 76, of Spearfish, SD, formerly of Winner, SD, passed away Monday, May 28, 2012, at the Spearfish Regional Hospital in Spearfish, SD.
Jim was born July 8, 1935 to John and Lucille (Gordon) Flynn in Gregory, SD. He grew up at Dog Ear Lake, attended Rural Country School, and graduated from Winner High School. He went to Dakota Wesleyan University for a year before moving to Boulder, CO to go to work for Continental Baking Company (Wonder Bread).
He married the love of his life, Shirley Ann Steele on August 30th, 1955 in Estes Park, CO. To this marriage five children were born in Cheyenne, WY. Jim and Shirley lived for numerous years in Winner, SD where Jim was an aerial sprayer, flight instructor, hunting guide and owned a radiator repair business. They also lived in Red Lake Falls, MN for many years where Jim again worked as an aerial sprayer and flight instructor. Jim's final working years were spent driving the school bus for the Colome School District, which he enjoyed very much.
Jim loved spending time with his wife Shirley of nearly 57 years, his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and especially spending time at Dog Ear Lake with friends and family.
Jim is survived by his wife Shirley (Steele); children, Darla (Bob) Pravecek, Spearfish, SD; Jim (Theresa) Flynn, Lino Lakes, MN; Kathy (Ben) Murphy, Red Lake Falls, MN; Cindy Winney, Spearfish, SD; and Tina Flynn, Pierre, SD; 16 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and sister Grace (Bud) Scott, Brighton, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Rose Marie, and brothers Pat and Dennis.
Vigil Prayer service will be at 7:00 P.M. CST, on Thursday, 7 June, 2012 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Winner. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 A.M. CST, Friday, June 8, 2012 at the church with inurnment at St. Joseph Cemetery in Gregory.
