James "Elger" Edlund, 92 Lead, died Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at the Lead-Deadwood Regional Hospital in Deadwood.
James was born September 22, 1918 in Sturgis SD to Andrew and Lydia (Scott) Edlund and moved to Lead, SD in 1930. He served in the US Navy during World War II on the USS Prometheus in the South Pacific.
He married Marjorie Lynch on September 5, 1948 in Spearfish, SD. They lived their married life and raised their family in Lead. Jim worked in the South Mill of the Homestake Gold Mine, and retired after 40+ years.
Grateful for having shared his life are his surviving children: Barbara (Steve) Stevens of Arizona, Mark Edlund of New Mexico, Alan (Miae) Edlund of California; sister Dorothea Davis of Washington; Grandchildren Jennitte Stevens (Michael Bush) and Andrew (Meltem) Stevens, Stephanie and Ashley Edlund; Great-grand children Brendan Bush and Melek Stevens; several nieces, nephews , and cousins.
Preceding him in death were his wife Marjorie, son Michael Edlund, brothers Lester, Art and George Edlund, and his parents Andrew and Lydia Edlund.
Services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Monday November 29, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Deadwood, a celebration of his life will immediately follow. He will be laid to rest with military honors at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
