James "Jim" Michael Bellantino, Sr., 64 of Spearfish, SD found his rest in the Lord on Monday, September 21, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family
Jim was born on April 27, 1956 in Chicago, IL to Louis and Dorothy (Carter) Bellantino. He moved to SD shortly after his mother's passing at 9 years old. He started his life in SD at Father Murray's Sky Ranch for Boys in Harding County, where he remained until he was 17 years old. He met his future wife, Beverly Humbracht there. At 17, he left Sky Ranch, and moved in with the Humbrachts. After chasing her for three years, Bev finally agreed to marry him, and they wed on June 19, 1976. Jim and Bev settled in Spearfish and in 1982 started their family. He had worked at area ranches around Sturgis, and as a train operator for Homestake Mining Company on level 5500, co-owned Red X Mine and worked at others. He also worked for various logging companies before starting his own company, Great North Logging, Inc, which he operated until his brain aneurysm in 2012. His hobbies and interests included: anything outdoors, hiking, fishing, and ice fishing, playing poker with his buddies, tinkering, working on his equipment. In recent months Jim enjoyed listening to oldies music and watching western movies.
Jim was a born provider, starting from a young age working various odd jobs to support his mother, who was raising seven children by herself. He shined shoes, worked at a produce stand, anything he could do to help his family. Jim was proud of his family, especially his wife, the love of his life, Bev "Mama".
Survivors include his wife, Bev; his children: Ron, Cathy, Cindy and James Jr all from Spearfish; his grandchildren: Mia, Asher, Owen all from Spearfish and Evan from Hannibal, MO; cousin, Phyllis Phillips and several nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Dorothy Bellantino; brothers: Bill Hillbrandt, Bob Hillbrandt, Felix Bellantino and Ron Bellantino; sisters, JoAnne Hillbrandt and Mary Jane Weiman; his brothers from Sky Ranch and many others from his extended family.
