Obituary

Jack R. Latimer, 88, of Sundance, Wyoming died Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Campbell County Memorial Hospital in Gillette, Wyoming.

Jack was born June 26, 1927 at Amarillo, Texas, the son of Samuel and Sallie (Channon) Latimer. He entered the United States Army on April 11, 1947 at the age of 19. During the 22 years of service to his country, assignments took him to many posts in the United States and abroad. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars, and also served in Japan and Germany. During his service he was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, the Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Korean and Vietnam Service and Campaign Medals. Many cherished and life-long friendships came out of his time in the Army.

His first tour in Germany led him to meet the love of his life. Jack married Annalise Faber on October 8, 1955 in Wiesbaden, Germany. He was stationed at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma and back in Germany two more times each. He retired as a 1st Sgt. from the Army on August 1, 1969 and they settled in Lawton, OK. He then worked for the Arkla Gas Company from 1969 until his retirement from there in 1984. Jack loved kids, but none more than his two grandchildren. Shortly after he and Annalise found out they were going to be grandparents, plans were made to move to the Rathbun Ranch outside of Sundance, WY, which they did in 1987. They bought a piece of land from Bo and Crystal Rathbun and built their home. He lived there until his death. Years of sharing family events, talking to his much loved "son" Kenny about the Army, playing good games of Pinochle and most of all, following grandchildren's events and accomplishments brought so much joy to Jack's life. Jack was also a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Moorcroft, WY.

Jack is survived by his wife, Annalise Latimer of Sundance, daughter Denise (Kenny) Rathbun, grandchildren; Elaina Marie (Jason) Mathiesen of Sioux Falls, SD and Chesney Paul Rathbun of Idaho Falls, ID, and his sister Patricia (Richard) Forbess of Forney, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, two infant daughters, five sisters and three brothers.

Memorials may be directed to benefit the Sundance Senior Center and Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Funeral services will be Friday, April 22, 2016 at 10:00 at Fidler-Roberts & Isburg Funeral Chapel in Sundance. Burial will take place at the Miller Creek Cemetery following the service. Lunch and fellowship time will be in the Courthouse Basement following the burial.
