It's with a sad, heavy heart that we said goodbye, for now, to Jack Eugene DeLong on September 25, 2014.
Jack was born December 18, 1957 in Brush, CO to Jackie Jo DeLong & Shirley (Koehler) Bergen. He started school in CO, and moved to Deadwood in 1970. He graduated from Lead High School in 1976. He worked many jobs, most surveying, until 1985 when he went to work for Arleth & Associates in Deadwood. He met Judy Pease in 1993 in Newcastle, WY. They married on September 21, 1996, in his mother's backyard. They worked together for five years in Deadwood. Jack loved the outdoors, camping, fishing, especially gardening, being in the hills looking for berries, apples or rhubarb. He loved canning his goods, cooking and making Christmas cookies and treats to share as gifts.
He will be missed at family get-togethers. He was always in the kitchen, Budweiser in one hand, stirring gravy with the other. He would listen to all the talk and was quick with a laugh, smile and comeback.
He will be greatly missed by his parents, Jackie Jo DeLong, Shirley Bergen; step-father Pat Bergen; wife Judy; their cats, Digger, Lily & Belle; brothers, Larry and Tom Delong; sister-in-law, Shelly; sister, Tracy Pavon; nieces and nephews, Kayela Delong, Mallory and Emily Strang, Riley and Lexi Pavon, Leah Jo Harrison, Caysee and Tyler Hall, Royce, Cameron, Matt & Megan Pease and step-brother, Terry McGlendon. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Please join us for a Celebration of Life from 2-6 P.M. on October 19 at the Deadwood VFW. A memorial has been established at First Interstate Bank of the Northern Hills and Rapid City.
