Obituary

Iris Hughes, 85, died quietly at her home in Moorcroft, Wyoming on August 4, 2012 surrounded by loving family and friends. She was born on April 3, 1927 to Deane and Alice (Marsh) Bryan at the family ranch near Sundance, Wyoming.

At an early age, Iris and her family moved from the ranch into Sundance where she attended school, graduating from high school in 1945. She was an excellent student, and her early talent in music became apparent as she played the piano and organ for entertainment all her life. Upon graduating from high school, she chose Northwestern University in Illinois to pursue her education, graduating with a bachelor degree in music education in 1949.

At vacation time from college in 1948 in Sundance, she met what was to be her future husband, Willis "Bill" Hughes of Moorcroft who was a business-teaching instructor at Buffalo High School in Buffalo, Wyoming. Their attraction to each other was immediate, and they were subsequently married in 1949 to spend their lives together for over 63 years. To this union one son was born, Douglas Bryan Hughes, who presently is a doctor of dentistry and has a dental clinic in Newcastle, Wyoming and a satellite clinic in Upton, Wyoming. He is married to the former Virginia Lee Petersen of Moorcroft, Wyoming.

Iris and Bill spent their lives primarily serving the public as they owned and operated several businesses in Sundance, Casper, and Moorcroft, Wyoming. Iris continued her love for music, entertaining by piano and organ in church, school, and public throughout her life. She leaves to mourn her passing but to remember her beauty and generosity: her husband, son, and daughter-in-law, and also grandson Dr. Kyle Hughes and wife, Heidi of Reno, Nevada, grandson, Jordan Hughes of Fullerton, California, granddaughter, Shelby Hughes, Laramie, WY, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. Preceding Iris in death were her parents Deane and Alice Bryan, Sundance, Wyoming, and an infant sister.

A memorial service to commemorate her life and faith will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, Moorcroft, Wyoming at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 11, 2012 with Pastor Donavon Voigt officiating.

The family requests any memorial donations be directed in her name to benefit the First Presbyterian Church, Box 489, Moorcroft, WY 82721 or Treasured Memories: Hospice and Palliative Care, P.O. Box 73, Moorcroft, WY 82721 in appreciation of their dedicated support in Iris's life.
