Mabel Ione (Fowler) Hauber, 76 of Hulett, passed away suddenly on July 31, 2012 at the ranch and was exactly where she wanted to be at the time.

Funeral services for will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at the Greater Community Center (old High School Gym) in Hulett, WY. Burial will follow at the New Haven Cemetery and a luncheon at the New Haven Community Building after graveside service. Memorials have been established for the New Haven Community Building, the Hulett EMS and Fire Zone 8.

Ione was born on October 1, 1935 in Douglas, WY to Doug and Mabel (Eskew) Fowler. The family moved to a ranch near Oshoto, when she was five years old. She graduated from Campbell County High School in 1953 as the salutatorian of her class. She married her soul mate, Art Hauber on June 1, 1954 and lived on the ranch near New Haven, WY until her death.

After Art's death she ran the ranch until she retired but stayed actively involved with the ranch and the community. She was a charter member of the Buttons and Bows Homemakers Club formed in 1955, a lifetime member of the Hulett Rebekah Lodge #34, and the Zone 8 Fire Warden at her death and had been for many years. She was one of the founding members of the Hulett EMS and retired after 20 years of service and continued for several years past that as a First Aid and CPR instructor. She worked as an EMT at the Belle Ayr Mine for a number of years. She was known for her quilting and sewing and was making hand-sewn quilts long before it became popular. She loved to read, had visited many civil war battlefields the past several years and was quite a computer nerd. She was a rancher through and through and loved the life. She had exceptional honesty and integrity and was not afraid to give her opinion in her straightforward manner.

She is survived by four children, Linda (John) McGuire of Douglas, Lee Hauber of New Haven, Del (Mike) Nunley and David (Nancy) Hauber of Gillette; grandchildren, Quentin and Layne McGuire of Douglas and Emma and McKenna of Gillette. They were her pride and joy and she was totally and completely involved with them. She is also survived by her sister, Linda (Mel) Fowlkes of Kamiah, ID; brother, John Fowler of Gillette and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Art, parents and an infant sister Mary Lee.
