Obituary

Inga T. Edwards, 97, of Spearfish, passed away May 12, 2013 at home surrounded by family and in the care of hospice.


Inga Tysdal was born on their family's homestead, near Deerfield, on March 20, 1916. She was the second child of Lars and Martha Tysdal. Lars skied to Rochford, SD to register her birth after the spring storm broke.

She attended school in Lead and graduated from Newcastle High School. She was a graduate of the "Spearfish Normal School" and taught at one-room country schools at North Timber, Horton, and Skull Creek all located in Weston County Wyoming. While teaching at the North Timber School, she rode horseback ten miles each day to work.

She married Estes Edwards and they started their family on the Grand Canyon ranch near O'Neil Pass. In 1952, they moved to Spearfish to enroll their children in school, and soon after bought a ranch near Crow Peak. She was active in 4-H, Extension Club, Boy Scouts, High Plains Heritage Center, Our Saviors Lutheran Church, and Eastern Star.

Inga is survived by sons, Chuck (Barb) of Spearfish and their children Eric, Amanda, and Sarah; Norm (Jean) of Spearfish and Phoenix; John and his son Matthew of Spearfish, and Carl and his daughter Lauren of Spearfish as well as numerous great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Alan (Jane) Edwards and their daughters, Janice, and Linda of Arizona, and sister-in-law, Inez Tysdal and nephews Lauris Tysdal and Harold Tysdal of Four Corners WY. She was preceded in death by her husband, Estes, brother, Lloyd Tysdal, and nephew, Martin Tysdal.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, May 17, 2013 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Spearfish with inurnment to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to benefit the Good Shepherd Clinic and Hospice of the Northern Hills.

Arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels and Crematory Service of Spearfish.
