Inez Eileen Truman, 101, of Spearfish, SD went home to be with the Lord March 15, 2018.
Services will be held at 10:00 am on March 24, 2018 at the United Church of Christ in Belle Fourche, SD officiated by Pastor Del Neumeister. Viewing will be one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will follow at Pine Slope Cemetery in Belle Fourche.
Inez was born April 30, 1916 on her father's homestead in northeastern Crook County WY, near the old settlement of Mona. She was the eldest daughter of George and Eunice (Cathey) Mowery. She grew up in Crook County and graduated from the Hulett, WY High School in 1934. She completed fifth year normal training in May 1935, after which she taught country school in District #11 in Crook County.
She met Thomas Grant Truman of Belle Fourche, SD in June 1935. They were married November 26, 1937 at the Methodist Church in Deadwood, SD. She completed her third year of teaching in May 1938 then joined her husband in Belle Fourche where she lived for 56 years. She and Thomas became the parents of two sons, Gary and John "JD".
Thomas became the Mobil oil bulk agent in 1950. Inez kept books for the business until Tom's retirement in 1974.
Besides the love of family; landscape painting, reading, bridge and jeopardy became her passions. She was a member of the DAR and Eastern Star for many years and was currently a member of the Spearfish Senior Citizens, United Church of Christ in Spearfish and held an honorary membership in the Black Hills Art Association.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, two sisters and her husband, who died in July 1992.
She is survived by her two sons, Gary of Wagner, SD and John (Connie) of Spearfish, SD, three granddaughters, Cathy Truman, whom she and Thomas raised and who now lives in Sioux Falls, SD, Marcie (Mike) Mammenga of New Baden, IL, Sarah (Jason) Dahl of Rapid City, SD. Four great-grandchildren: Baylee Mammenga and Brett Mammenga, Cassia Vaughan and Joshua Dahl. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and greats.
She lived a long and active life and now she belongs to the ages!!
