Inez Phinney, 85, of Spearfish died Friday, January 12, 2018.

Inez was born May 10, 1932, in Ree Heights, S.D. to Bert and Henrietta (Menning) VanDerWerff. She attended schools in Ree Heights, Wessington, Miller and Huron. On April 27,1953, she married James "Jr." Phinney in Pierre. They lived in the rural Ree Heights area before moving to the Black Hills in 1957. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary. One of her favorite past times was playing solitaire and you could usually find a deck of well-worn cards on her kitchen table.

Survivors include two sons, Rick A. Phinney and Patty of Spearfish, Todd L. Phinney and Holly of Gillette, WY and a daughter, Debbie K. Daley and James, of Bradenton, FL; six grandchildren, Sandi Daley of Palmdale, CA, Jamie Rehbein and Justin of Gillette, WY, Justin Daley and Michelle of Bradenton, FL, Kaleb Phinney of Spearfish, Desiree Phinney of Lead, and Tylor Phinney of Gillette, WY; six great-grandchildren, Troy and Kyle Covell, Matthew Rehbein, Kelsey Stuen, Jimmy and Emma Kae Daley; and two brothers, Marvin VanDerWerff of Miller, and Ken VanDerWerff and Janice, of Sioux Falls. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three brothers.

Memorial services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 19, 2018 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish with Pastor Scott McKirdy officiating. Burial will be in the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis.
