Howard 'Swede' Haagensen, age 70, of Sundance, Wyoming, died at his home on Friday, June 8, 2007.
Howard's last request was to be remembered "as a joyful and happy person, remember all my tall tales and jokes; my love for life and my love for all of my family and friends."
Howard Haagensen was born December 4, 1936, in the town of Elizabeth, Colorado to the late Oswald and Veva Haagensen. He graduated from Pierce High School in Pierce, CO., May 11, 1956. Mr. Haagensen served proudly in the United States military as a member of the 9Th Infantry Division out of Fort Carson, CO. During the Vietnam War, he was a Ranger with the Special Forces. Howard was discharged with honors in 1961.
Howard Haagensen married Judy Wolf in Colorado where they started their family and then moved to Moorcroft, Wyoming. They had three children; Dawn, Wesley and Veva. Howard worked as a ranch manager and as an oil field pumper with Atlantic Richfield and Arco oil companies. After his divorce, Mr. Haagensen married Connie Bosa and lived in Sundance, Wyoming and they had a son, Jesse.
Mr. Haagensen enjoyed collecting Old West artifacts and memorabilia, stamp collecting, hiking, hunting and fishing. He was a lifetime member of the Wyoming Fishing and Game Conservationist Group, a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Howard Haagensen is survived by his brother, Keith Haagensen of Laramie, WY, daughters: Dawn, of Sundance, WY and Veva Haagensen of Belleville, IL, sons: Wesley, of Greeley, CO. and Jesse, of Watertown, SD, grandchildren: Brian and Jackie Turner, Gillette, WY, Wesley, Jr. Haagensen, IL, Cody Peterson, WY, Katara and Adam Haagensen, CO., Matthew Haagensen, IL, Shyee Steier, SD, great-grandchildren: Alec Hoon and Dominack Sharky of Gillette, WY.
The Haagensen family would like to thank all of the Visiting Nurses Staff from the VA Hospital. Their tender, consistent care for Howard shall never be forgotten. God Bless You!!! Additionally, a special thanks goes to Cab and Laura Redenbaugh for hosting Howard's last big party, the celebration of his 70th birthday.
