Herman T. White, 99, of Devils Tower, WY passed away August 17, 2007, in the Long Term Care facility in Sundance, WY where he resided less than two years.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, August 21, 2007 at the Fidler-Roberts & Isburg Funeral Chapel of Sundance, WY with Deacon Kim Carroll officiating burial will follow at the Tower Cemetery near Devils Tower.
Herman True White was the youngest son of Leonard and Ella Rose (Thornton) White. He was born April 9, 1908 at the family homestead and lived his entire life in the area. He attended rural schools and attended one year of high school in Moorcroft.
Herman and his middle brother Ernest, bought a ranch in the neighborhood and purchased a sawmill from a neighbor so they could pay for the ranch by selling lumber. They sawed many loads of railroad ties and delivered them to Moorcroft. Herman was 19 years old and Ernest was 30, they were both big, ambitious pioneer type men. They raised horses, cattle and farmed.
They made a home from their lumber and cared for their parents as long as their parents were living. Their father became crippled but was cared for at home. Their mother, Ella, lived maybe 15 years longer, was quite healthy for several years but became ill and spent the last week of her life in the Deadwood Hospital with her daughter-in-law at her side.
Herman married Margaret F. Bowers of Sundance, WY, October 3, 1961 at the Sundance Methodist Church and they have resided at the White Ranch since.
Daniel Herman White, their only child, was born October 5, 1962, in Deadwood and in manhood became manager of the family ranch.
Herman was a kind, always ready to help anyone, man. He loved animals and always had pets. He had an exceptional memory and remembered incidents with exact dates and enjoyed relating these stories and jokes which were very interesting and entertaining to listeners.
Herman White was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge in Hulett, Sunny Divide Farm Bureau and ready to assist the local volunteer firefighters or anyone needing help.
Herman is survived by his wife Margaret, son Danny and several nieces and nephews and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his parents and both brothers, Elsworth and Ernest.
A memorial has been established to the Long Term Care Facility of Sundance and the Crook County Senior Citizens and may be sent to 297 Highway 24, Devils Tower, WY 82714.
