Herman W. Steier, 81, Deadwood, SD, died Sunday, June 2, 2013 at the Lead-Deadwood Regional Hospital.

He was born March 27, 1932 at Sheffield, ND to Alec and Mary (Frank) Steier. He was raised in the Reeder, ND area, where he attended school. After he left school he began farming with his father. He then met the love of his life, Danelda Magelky and they were married on June 1, 1953. He then farmed with his father-in-law for a few years. In 1963, Herman and Danelda moved to Deadwood with their first six children. He then went to work at Homestake Gold Mine and their final child was born a short time later. He worked for nearly 30 years at Homestake before retiring.

Herman was very church oriented and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, singing and his family.

Survivors include his wife, Danelda, Deadwood; seven children, Miles (Lorri) Steier, Tacoma, WA, Allen Steier, Rapid City, Paula (Ken) Abrams, Lancaster, VA, Carol (Sherman) Langley, Rapid City, Carl Steier, Deadwood, Denis Steier, Boise, ID and Mark (Dawn) Steier, Sundance, WY; fifteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
Herman was preceded in death by his parents, brother Joe Steier and sister Lidwina Dvorak.

Visitation for Herman will be from 5-6 PM, Thursday, June 6, 2013 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Deadwood, followed by the Vigil at 7:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM, Friday, June 7, 2013 at the Church. Interment will follow at Oakridge Cemetery, near Deadwood.
