Obituary
Henry "Hank" Frawley, 80 of Centennial Valley, SD passed away Saturday, April 22, 2017 at his home.
Hank was born in Deadwood, SD on October 12, 1936 to Henry and Anne (Hanna) Frawley. He attended St. Ambrose Catholic School and graduated from Deadwood High School in 1955. He was a member of the Deadwood High School, Class A state championship basketball team in 1954. He attended Black Hills State University and then transferred to the University of Notre Dame, receiving his bachelor's degree in 1960. He returned to Black Hills State University to pursue graduate studies in Theater Arts, and then spent a year at the Yale Drama School. He then returned to South Dakota and went into the ranching business with his father. He was selected as Range Man of The Year in 1984 by the South Dakota Section for the Society for Range Management.
Hank served as a Lawrence County Commissioner for 14 years. He helped organize the Save Centennial Valley Association and the Butte – Lawrence County Water Quality Association. He was very instrumental in saving and restoring the Lawrence County Courthouse. He was a member of the Lawrence County Historical Society, Spearfish Historical Society, the Black Hills Society of Pioneers and the High Plains Heritage Museum and Saint Joseph Catholic Church. In 1977 he persuaded the National Park Service to designate the Frawley Ranch a National Historic Landmark. In 1978 he was united in marriage to Molly Bolster in San Marino, California.
He is survived by his wife Molly Frawley, one son Michael (Jennifer) Frawley and two grandchildren, Ben and Connor.
Hank was preceded in death by his parents.
Christian wake services will be held at 7pm, Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Spearfish.
Mass of Christian burial will take place at 10am, Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, burial will take place at the Anderson-Frawley Cemetery on the Frawley Ranch. In lieu of flowers a memorial had been established.
