Helen Mae (Hoge) Hubbard, 76, of Sundance, WY passed away peacefully with her family at her side, at Edgewood Vista in Spearfish, SD on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Helen Hubbard was born on May 22, 1938 in Bismarck, ND, to Paul T. and Ida M. Hoge. She graduated Bismarck High School and Valley City State College. She started her teaching career in Sundance, WY where she met Richard E. Hubbard who was also starting his teaching career. They were married on July 21, 1962 in Bismarck, ND, and were married for over 51 years.
She taught Kindergarten, art, baton and was a librarian. In addition, she served in numerous civic and community organizations including the local FFA chapter, Jobs Daughters , 4-H, Sundance Planning Board, and Chamber of Commerce . She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sundance.
Her favorite activity was sewing. She took pride in making many of her children's clothes as they grew up as well as her own.
In addition, she and Richard owned and managed the Arrowhead Motel for over 34 years. She was the mother of 3 children and grandmother of 4 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Richard. She is survived by her children: son, Todd (Connie) Hubbard and grandchildren, Tobias and Elizabeth, Spearfish, SD; daughter, Laurie (Hubbard) Harrington and grandchildren, Alyssa and Hayden, The Woodlands, TX; daughter, Dr. Tonya Hubbard, Canon City, CO; sister, Jeanne (Hoge) Bergren, Park Rapids, MN & children; brothers, Donald Hoge, Bismarck, ND; and Richard Hoge, Baldwin, ND.
Funeral services will be at 4:00 P.M. on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at the Sundance United Methodist Church in Sundance, WY. Burial will follow at Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
