Harriette Jane Harrington, 106 of Spearfish, SD passed away January 4, 2021, at Avantara Mountain View Healthcare in Rapid City, SD, after contracting Covid-19.
Harriette was born January 1, 1915, in Keystone, SD, to Edward and Cora (Thomas) Coad, and lived in the southern Black Hills until her marriage to Joe Harrington Sept. 10, 1933. Following their marriage, Harriette and Joe ranched in the Antelope Divide area north of Box Elder until 1972, when they retired and moved to Salinas, CA.
In her retirement, she was an active member of the Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital Service League for over 20 years, where she worked in the gift shop. She also enjoyed traveling with Joe and gardening, and she spent hours cultivating her roses. Harriette was an avid reader and embroiderer, and she enjoyed completing crossword puzzles in her spare time. She moved back to South Dakota in 1998 to be closer to family. In her later years, she loved going for drives in the Black Hills. Spring was her favorite time of year because she loved calving season and seeing the new babies.
Harriette was preceded in death by her husband Joe, son Thomas Harrington, daughters Ann Harrington and Patricia Popelka, and grandson Steve Smith.
She is survived by her son Dave (Donna) Harrington of Deming, NM; daughter-in-law Charlotte Kinslow of Russellville, AR; grandchildren Rene Emme of Box Elder; Anthony (Tammy) Smith of Cheyenne, WY; Teresa Sweazey of Vancouver, WA; and several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Following cremation, Harriette's ashes will be placed next to her husband in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Rapid City.
Cremation arrangements were under the care of Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels and Isburg Crematory of Spearfish.
