IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Haakon "Chris"
Anderson
July 7, 1944 – June 3, 2022
Haakon "Chris" Anderson, 77, made the journey to heaven at his home in Spearfish, SD with family by his side on June 3, 2022.
Chris was born to Elma (Church) & Haakon Anderson of Murdo, SD on July 7, 1944. He was the 2 nd oldest sibling of the four children & the only boy so was always considered the favorite son. Chris spent his youth in Murdo where he developed many true lifelong friendships. He graduated from Murdo High School in 1962 and one of his favorite things to do was meet up with his classmates for reunions & reminisce about all the glory days, sports games won & lost, & adventures in Murdo.
After High School, Chris attended Black Hill State University where he found someone who could match his zest for life & stand toe to toe with him in any argument he presented, Belva Keever. The two of them were married on August 24, 1966 and from there they worked as a team and proved that opposites do attract. This couple possessed a combined energy and work ethic like no others & together laughed, loved, & tackled the many hurdles of life for 56 years, a lifetime together.
A majority of his professional career was spent as a school superintendent in the Lyman & Bennett County School Districts. He considered the positive impacts he made in public education his biggest achievement.
Chris loved watching sports of all kinds. He was a fan of South Dakota high school & collegiate sports, with BHSU being one of his favorites. He was a proud alumni supporter at Black Hills State & could be found wearing Yellow Jacket gear any season of the year. One of Chris's favorite things in his retirement years was to meet with his friends at an Einstein table for coffee in the morning to tackle the world's problems.
A big part of Chris's life was his faith in God. He had a deep belief that guided his acts of service. He volunteered & generously supported many charitable organizations. He attended both Countryside Church in Spearfish, SD & Broadway Christian in Mesa, AZ. He passed along his faith in God to his children & grandchildren. Besides faith, his humor & love of teasing others was also passed along to his grandkids. His smirk & low laugh when making a witty side comment land on its intended target will be missed.
Chris is survived by his wife, Belva; children, Chauncey Anderson of Warrensburg, MO, and Cj Anderson (Corey Berig) of Denver, CO; grandchildren Teagan & Landy Anderson and their mother Susan, Mollie & Christopher Berig; sister, Lynette Peetz (Rick) of UT, and many close friends & extended family.
Proceeded in death by his parents, sisters Jorgina Rederick & Cleive Heller both of AZ.
In lieu of flowers please donate to any of the following charities in memory of Chris: Salvation Army, Spearfish Bella Pregnancy Center, BHSU Scholarships, & Countryside Youth Programs.
