Gordon Gillespie, 86 of Spearfish, passed away on February 28, 2013 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Gordon Lea Gillespie was born august 25, 1926 in Minneapolis, MN to George and Lydia Ruth Gillespie. He grew up in the Tilford and Sturgis area as a child. The family moved to Spearfish before Gordon's senior year. After graduating from Spearfish High school in 1944, Gordon enlisted in the United States Army to serve his country for the next 2 years. Upon returning to Spearfish, he worked for the Homestake Mining Company as a sawyer in the sawmill in Spearfish. After 33 years with Homestake, he continued his sawyer career at several local mills before retiring.
He was married to Allevia Louise Royer on November 12, 1948 in Milesville, SD. They raised 7 children of which he was very proud of and they spent 53 years in their home on Upper Valley Road.
Gordon will always be remembered as the loving dad and uncle who always joined in the softball games and water fights and rallied the kids to the gathering point with his famous whistle at the Gillespie family reunions.
He is survived by his wife Allevia, their 6 children, sons Gerald (Mineko) Gillespie of Salina, KS, Roger (Sandy) Gillespie of Whitewood, SD, Jason (Nicky) Gillespie of Gillette, WY, daughters Debra Fustos of Riverton, WY, Phyllis (Terry) Zenk of Riverton, WY, and Barb (Larry) Deibert of Spearfish, SD, his 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, brothers Robert (Lotus) Gillespie of Belle Fourche, SD, Paul (Mary) Gillespie of Houston, TX, and many nieces, nephews, two brothers-in-law and a sister- in- law. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Keith, brothers Ed and John Gillespie, and sisters, Pat Amsden and Leona Rasmussen.
Visitation will be 1:00 to 3:00 PM on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at the Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, March 4, 2013 at the funeral home with Pastor Scott McKirdy officiating. Memorials may be given on Gordon's behalf to the Spearfish Meals on Wheels program for the family has been very grateful for this service over the past year.
