Obituary

Gloria Moreno Shields, 62, peacefully passed away on the morning of Wednesday, December 11, 2013, at her Spearfish home. She fearlessly battled pancreatic cancer for the last two years.

Gloria was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA, where she spent most of her life before moving to the Black Hills area 13 years ago. She worked for First Premier Bank and the Butte County State's Attorney. In addition, she was involved in countless charitable activities throughout the Spearfish community such as: Relay For Life, the Hospice Ball, Scleroderma Walk For a Cure, and Bras for a Cause.

Gloria enjoyed hikes in the Black Hills, book club, El Pollo Loco Chicken, arts and crafts, and a nice day on any beach. Her family and friends remember her most for her upbeat attitude and positive outlook on life. She was someone that was happier to be rich in life's experiences and relationships than in personal possessions. If you were fortunate enough to know Gloria, you were better off because of it. Gloria Moreno Shields will be greatly missed by many people.

She is survived by her husband, Tom Shields; loyal dog, Roxanne; sister, Alice Rosales; brother, Arthur Moreno; and a very large extended family, all of whom love and miss her dearly.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Tim VanderHyde and Butte County, hospice nurse Deb Brunette, and the Spearfish Police Department for their help during such a tough time.

Memorial services will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to Hospice of the Northern Hills.

Arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels and Crematory Service of Spearfish.
