Glenn D. Stratton, 85, of Deadwood, SD passed away, Friday, March 20, 2015 at Fort Meade VA Medical Center in Sturgis, South Dakota surrounded by family.
Glenn was born October 14, 1929 in Newcastle, Wyoming to Arthur and Edna Stratton. He grew up in Custer, South Dakota and graduated from high school in 1946. He served during the Korean Conflict in the United States Army. He returned to the Black Hills and worked for 36 years for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company retiring in 1983. He owned and operated the Lock Stock & Barrel Gun Shop in Deadwood for many years. He was active in the community serving on the
School Board and the Deadwood City Commission. He was a Boy Scoutmaster and active in shooting sports all his life where he helped many youth learn shooting and gun safety. He was also an avid hunter.
Glenn is survived his wife of 62 years Deloris, Deadwood, SD; children, Doug (Linda) Stratton, Sturgis, SD, Diana (Tim) Terlesky Boise, ID, Rod Stratton Scottsdale, AZ and Pam (Jay) Smith, Lead, SD; ten grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters.
Memorial services will be 10:30 AM on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at the Lead-Deadwood Memorial Chapel in Lead. Inurnment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
Arrangements are under the care of the Lead-Deadwood Memorial Chapel in Lead.
