Obituary

Glen William Everhard, 73, of Lead, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at Monument Health in Rapid City.

Glen was born in Lead on January 9, 1950 to Donald and Gladys (Helmer) Everhard. He attended Lead public schools and graduated from Lead High School in 1968. After high school, he worked at the Homestake bowling alley and eventually started working at the Homestake Mine. Glen worked as a pipe fitter in the mine, and always called himself the "water wizard." He loved working at Homestake and made several lifelong friends and gained several additional nicknames including "Mac" and "Bones." After the mine closed, he spent some time at First Gold in a customer-facing job for the first time ever, and his personality shined. When an opportunity to drive monster dump trucks in Wyoming at Black Thunder became available, he jumped at the chance. He enjoyed hauling coal, but if he had to haul dirt… that was another story. He stayed busy with coal until he retired in May of 2019. In retirement, he enjoyed working at Roundhouse Liquors in Lead.

Glen met the love of his life Ella and they were married on August 10, 1973 and were looking forward to celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this summer. They raised two wonderful daughters, Amanda and Brandie and he enjoyed watching their six grandchildren grow up. Glen loved being a Dad and a Papa, and he loved traveling to Minnesota and Sioux Falls to see everyone. One of his favorite things to do was just wander around in his Dodge truck. He was fiercely loyal to his favorite sports teams and wouldn't miss watching the Twins or the Vikings play. He also loved his beloved cat Boomer and found joy in taking care of him everyday.

He is survived by his loving wife Ella May Everhard; and his two daughters Amanda (Clayton) Omberg, and Brandie (Matthew) Frankman; his grandchildren Keegan 22, Lauren 21, Lucy 19, Megan 13, Kye 11 and Kale 9; brother Mike (Roxanne) and sister Dawn.

Waiting for him are his parents and his brother Gary.

Glen's celebration of life is on Thursday, June 1, 2023 from 4:00pm-6:00pm at Lumpy's Casino Bar in Central City. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Lead-Deadwood Animal Shelter in his honor.
