Gerald "Jerry" Smith of Newcastle, WY died at Weston County Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at the age of 63.

Jerry was born on June 7, 1944 in Deadwood, South Dakota to Violet C. Geisner. Jerry attended school in Deadwood through his junior year. He graduated from Rapid City Central in 1962. He went to work for Black Hills Power & Light in 1962. After 44 successful years, Jerry retired from Black Hills Power & Light in 2006.

Jerry married Ray Auker in 1964 in Rapid City, SD then moved to Newcastle, WY in 1966.

Jerry is survived by his wife Ray Smith, Newcastle, WY, sons Troy (Sandye), Las Vegas, NV and Timm (Sandy), Casper, WY, grandchildren Shawn and Veronica, his father, Donald Smith, Rapid City, SD, sister Laura Pepper, Rapid City, SD and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother. Violet Smith, his grandparents, George and Mary Geisner, and brothers-in-law Dennis Pepper and Mack McCormick.

Graveside services will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Newcastle, WY on Saturday, May 24, 2008 at 1:30 pm, with Reverend Bill Haley and Reverend Charles Dutcher officiating. A gathering will follow at Weston County Senior Services (627 Pine Street, Meeting Room #2).
