Obituary

Gerald L. Douglas, 63 passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2013, at his home in Lead, due to a serious fall.

Jerry was born April 4, 1950 to John & Vera Douglas in Herculaneum, Missouri where he spent his youth.

He went into the Army in 1969 and was stationed in Vietnam in 1970 -71. On returning to the states he moved to New Paltz, NY where he worked for a restoration company, helping restore mansions, such as the Vanderbilt Estate.

Later he headed west to Spearfish where he attended Black Hills State College and worked for the US Forest Service where he met his wife (of almost 32 years), Susan Stone-Douglas. In 1989 Jerry started working in gaming in Deadwood where he remained until his poor health forced him to retire in January 2012.
Jerry was a history buff and loved studying military history and especially the history of the Black Hills. Jerry and Sue loved their outings into the Hills in search of old mines and ghost towns. They lived in the Nemo Area over 23 years enjoying the natural beauty of the Hills and the abundant wildlife around their home. They relocated to Lead in 2009.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and two brothers. He is survived by his wife and her family.

A graveside service will be held at the Black Hills National Cemetery at a later date. Memorials will be directed to the new handicap ramp at the Episcopal Church in Lead.
