Gerald Herber "Herb" Dahl , 65, Spearfish, passed away unexpectedly at his home on January 23, 2016.
Visitation will be from 3-6 PM on Sunday, January 31, 2016 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Monday, February 1, 2016 at the United Methodist Church in Spearfish. A memorial fund has been established in his name to DC Booth Fish Hatchery.
Gerald was born to Paul and Edna (Herber) Dahl on February 21, 1950 in Spearfish. He received his education in the Spearfish schools and remained in the area all his life. He was well known for his expertise in construction. Growing up, Gerald enjoyed sports, working on his prized '67 Camaro, and fishing with his Grandpa Carl.
On May 19, 1978 he was united in marriage to Linda Jasper. They had one son, Derek, who joined sisters, Dena and Dixie Stone.
Gerald had passion and skills for hunting that he has passed on to his children and grandchildren. He loved spending time on the Thompson ranch. He taught his kids and grandkids to fish in Spearfish Creek near their home in Spearfish Canyon. He loved playing with the grandkids, even if it meant wearing lipstick. He was quick witted and funny, always making people laugh. He also enjoyed golfing and just being outdoors in general.
Gerald is survived by his father, Paul Dahl, of Spearfish; his children, Derek (Lauren) Dahl, Dena Sandidge, Dixie Stone, all of Spearfish; brothers, Von (Mary) Dahl of Buffalo, WY, Dennis (Carole) Dahl of Spearfish; grandchildren, Jade Dahl of Denmark, Kiara Stone, Morgan and Lane Sandidge, Avery and Emma Dahl all of Spearfish; three nephews and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his mother, Edna and a nephew, Randy.
